President Bush and the rest of his administration have always touted the benefits of democracy but always end being hypocritical especially where Africa is concerned. The U.S. always ends up supporting despotic leaders whose corruption and mismanagement of their own countries is well known. Adding a strategic military command post in Africa like AFRICOM will not provide any kind of humanitarian benefit for African people, all it will create is ....

While I think it’s admirable that celebrities have taken an interest in Africa, I believe their involvement does more harm than good especially in the case of Bono. As far as the media is concerned, Bono has become the preeminent authority on all things Africa. ....

Realistically, how can African leaders expect the G8 to address poverty while many of them ignore it in their own countries? Why should the G8 care about AIDS/HIV, malaria and other diseases affecting African people if their own leaders don’t care? Until African leaders take responsibility for poverty in their own countries, it won’t matter how much money organizations like the G8 pledge to fight it. ....
